Skype for Business, which has the capability to video conference 250 people at once, will soon be in the palm of your hand.
A preview program of a Skype for Business app was released this month for iOS and Android phones. In order to participate in this preview, you must be the IT/Tenant Administrator for your organization. You will also be asked to nominate up to four users for each platform you choose to preview. In addition, your organization must have Lync 2013 mobile deployed today. You can sign up for preview here.
Skype for Business App Features
Look and Feel
The Skype for Business phone app looks and feels just like the original Skype. The contacts list, presence indicators, buttons and icons remain the same. Chat text formatting in the conversation window allows users to easily keep up with all their communications.
Dashboard
The app’s dashboard doubles as its home screen with pertinent information to help you manage your workday all in one place. In iOS, you can easily search your global address book. A calendar is also included to view upcoming appointments right from the dashboard. Also on the dashboard is a feature to view recent conversations like chats, phone calls and meetings.
Improved Call and Meeting Experiences
The mobile app has larger buttons, full-screen video and a choice of views on your phone. The new app allows for one-tap navigation between video and content in a meeting. Or for iOS only, users can choose to view the content and the speaker’s video simultaneously. Callers may also mute other participants or add new ones.
Emoticons
Skype for Business now comes complete with the same set of emoticons available in the consumer version of Skype.
Those who have Lync 2013 on your iOS or Android device will receive the Skype’s business app as an update later this year. The mobile apps are compatible with Lync Server 2013, Skype for Business Server 2015 and Skype for Business Online.
