Keeping your IT infrastructure operational and up-to-date is an important part of running a successful business. Failing to keep your computer network properly optimized leaves it prone to cyber-attacks, hardware failure, and malware. That is why here, at TCI Techs, we recommend yearly maintenance and upgrades for each network we support. As computers get faster, and technology changes, the need for more secure operating systems increases. That is why our specialized IT firm suggests updating to Windows 7 in the near future.
This spring – on April 8th, 2014 – Windows XP’s 14-year life will come to a close, as Microsoft discontinues support for the OS. In addition to this, support for Windows Office 2003 will also be dropped. As a result, software updates and service packs will no longer be sent through automatic updates. Each time your computer boots up, Microsoft XP checks the internet for updates to the OS which help protect it from security threats, errors, and glitches. Once support is discontinued, these updates will be as well. It is then possible for hackers to obtain personal information and credit card data from your machine. Additionally, drivers for hardware and peripheral devices – such as cameras, keyboards, and other add-ons – will no longer be available; this will render newer devices useless with older systems.
As an IT firm that has experienced a variety of computer systems, we know the difficulties of staying on an older platform. While it is entirely your decision whether or not to upgrade your OS, our support line will no longer be able to provide assistance with any OS that predates Windows 7. We recommend upgrading your computers and software because we will be unable to troubleshoot any issues related to Windows XP after official support is no longer available.
